…you are Peter,
And upon this rock I will build my Church,
And the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail
Against it.
(Matt. 1618)
Jesus, Your Church is now attacked,
It is now strongly assailed.
You promised that the netherworld
Would not against Your church prevail.
But O how winds are whipping,
Tidal waves are crashing down—
In every place we chance to look,
Wickedness abounds.
Rescue Your Church, O LORD,
May Your Church be ever restored.
Rebuild its walls and altars.
Rebuild Your Church, dear LORD.
Rescue Your people, Jesus.
Bless us with holy priests,
To proclaim with boldness
The truth You came to teach.
Rescue our loved ones, LORD,
They’ve fallen in life’s rubble.
Swept away by worldly lies.
Jesus, they’re in trouble.
Rescue our loved ones, Jesus,
Help them to rebuild
Their lives upon Your solid rock;
Through You, now be fulfilled.
Come to us now, Lord Jesus,
To loved ones who have strayed.
Restore now to our loved ones—
The dignity for which they’re made.
To Your Church now draw our loved ones,
Make of them a new leaven,
That they may spend life serving You,
And all eternity in heaven.
