HELP US, DEAR LORD, TODAY

Our steps now seem so shaky.
We need steps sure and firm.
Put a new song in our hearts.
For Your truth may we yearn.

Lord, we are afflicted.
Deliver us from all distress.
We turn to You as our sure help.
Increase our faithfulness.

Go to our loved ones now Lord.
They know not Your steady ways.
Help loved ones embrace Your teachings.
Help us, dear Lord, today.

(Based on Psalm 40)

RESTORE HUMILITY

“One act of humility is worth more than all the knowledge of the world.” (St. Teresa of Avila)

Jesus, give us vision clear.  Help us now to see,
The best way to crush the devil’s head is through humility.
He has no defense against it.  Against it he crumbles.
The devil loses all his might when a soul is humble.

Let’s reject praise unto us.  Let praise to God now be restored.
To walk in true humility, let’s contemplate the passion of our Lord.
Structures built tall and high, first need a deep foundation.
Before ascending a high mountain, we must gain strength through tribulation.

Loved ones have walked a painful and misguided path of pride.
They’ve heeded Satan’s prideful promptings, absorbed his snarling words in stride.
Show to them, Lord Jesus, how pride is futility.
The path which leads to life is the path of humility.

Go to them now sweet Jesus.  Kick the devil from their lives.
Help them know Your loving laws.  Free them from their pride.
Help them see You are the source of all ability.
Dear Lord, take away all pride.  Restore humility.

BRING EACH LOVED ONE HOME

Lord, Your sheep hear Your voice.  You said: “they follow me.”
Open up our eyes that at last we may see:
To follow You is to walk towards eternal life.
To walk the path of peace; the path that’s free from strife.

Your sheep cannot be taken out of Your loving hand.
Or dragged to some evil place.  This we understand.
The Father gave the sheep to You.  With the Father You are one.
You are the Good Shepherd.  Your sheep follow You, God’s Son.

May we all follow You as our Shepherd and our Lord.
May Your voice be the One we hear.  Your words, may we adore.
May we honor You in all we do; stay safe within Your hands.
May we be protected by You, in homes built on rock and not on sand.

You are the Good Shepherd.  You seek and save the lost.
Go now to all our loved ones.  Go now at any cost.
Take from them their stony hearts.  Fill their hearts with Your love.
Grant them repentance from all sin, with grace from above.

Go to them now, Lord Jesus, no matter where they’ve roamed.
Bring our loved ones back to the Church.  Bring each loved one home.

GUARD THEIR HEARTS AND MINDS

Lord, ever-present, You are in our midst.
From You and in You, true love exists.
We give You thanks, Jesus, as we turn to You,
Only by Your love, can life be renewed.

We need grace to listen, that Your voice we will hear.
You will not leave us. You are ever near.
Should fearful thoughts come, help us embrace piety.
Free us from all worry.   Free us from anxiety.

When we pray to You, in thankful petition,
When we give our wills to You, in humble submission,
Then peace fills our lives, in a way not demanding,
For peace triumphs fear, over understanding.

Dear Lord, help our loved ones find their peace in You.
Help them pray in petition, give thanks for You too.
Help them know Your love, that You are in their midst.
Go now and teach them that true love exists.

May Your love be the love, loved ones seek to find.
Guard their hearts, Jesus.  Guard their hearts and minds.

I LAY THIS SORROW AT THE FOOT OF YOUR CROSS

I lay this sorrow, Lord, at the foot of Your cross.
Yet another sorrow come my way, yet another loss.
I unite this sorrow to that suffering which You Yourself endured.
Unite it to Your sweating blood in Gethsemane, my dear Lord.

I unite this sorrow to the scourging by which your skin was shred,
I unite it to the thorns which pierced your badly bloodied head.
I unite this sorrow to the cross which was so bravely by You borne.
And to Your crucifixion, at which You were mocked with scorn.

I unite all my pain, to the pain You know so well.
I unite it to Your sacrifice, of which the scriptures tell.
You suffered in great agony; I ponder this anew.
For Your suffering sweet Jesus, I place all my trust in You.
