Shepherds in the region, where Jesus was born.
Watched through night, until break of dawn.
Living in fields, they cared o’er their flock.
An angel appeared. It was surely a shock.
Fear struck the shepherds. The angel proclaimed:
“Good news of great joy.” The angel explained
That in David’s city, Christ our Lord was born.
At last our Savior! After waiting so long.
A sign to the shepherds, from this holy angel:
They would find the Babe, and He’d be in a manger
Around the shepherds, the Lord’s glory, was shining.
This Infant—the answer to our hearts’ restless pining.
Heavenly Hosts, a large multitude,
Praising God for this Infant, born in solitude.
Jesus, upon us, may Your favor forever rest.
May we praise God who is most high, for how we’ve been blessed.
May we know Who You are, and all that You teach.
May we live the truths which You lived and preached.
May all now believe, and at last come to know,
Christmas is not a fevered frenzy, or a fruitless futile show,
But love born to save us, Truth born to light the way.
May loved ones hear Your words, follow all that You say.
May all hearts, turn to You, the Christ, on Christmas day.
