WHEN I CAN JUST BE STILL
There’s an Adoration chapel, and often I go there,
As if it were a royal palace, with a red velvet chair.
I climb up there, with golden crown and royal ring,
And I become a princess, the daughter of my King.
This chair is lifted high above a plethora of gut-wrenching, worldly things.
On this chair I whisper to my Father Who is Lord
And He reaches down to comfort me and more.
All my deepest fears and longings of my heart,
Are placed within His hands, from my hands kept apart.
My mind is struck, terrified by frightful thoughts of what could be.
Through prayer, my Father takes the fright away from me.
Tucks it in a place where I can no longer see.
With only God and His glory now within my sight.
With loving heart, the Father starts to set things right.
He soothes my soul and calms my fears.
With open ears, His whisper I then hear:
Be still my child, I am your King, your Father and your Lord.
I am the Author of all life, the One you have adored.
Be still my child, just be still.
His voice and presence permeate both my soul and will.
Surrendered to the Lord, in this red velvet chair,
He takes from me all worry, and all of my cares.
The hour passed, from His chair, I must at last climb down.
My soul so longs to keep this royal ring and princess crown.
I step into the world with its senseless chatter and loud noises,
With its mixture of messages, and disturbing “choices.”
But amidst all of the blaring, amidst this world’s crazy noise,
I can hear my Father’s call, I can hear the Father’s voice:
Be still my child, just be still.
His voice and presence permeate both my soul and will.
My Father cares for everything, when I can just be still.
Your poems and prose are so beautiful and inspiring. Tomorrow is first Friday adoration at our church and I will continue to reflect on these moving words. Thank you so much. God bless.
Brought tears to my eyes – struck my heart so deeply
Thank you
